Just before the end of the summer holidays, a country boy spends his savings on a dream city haircut – with surprising results. A story about saying goodbye to childhood and the poetic end of summer.
Film expert recommends
The award-winning hit of global festivals is not the first film in the oeuvre of a young filmmaker from China, whose feature debut The Dog (2015) is reminiscent of the achievements of the Italian neo-realists. This time, in a short 15-minute feature film, he realistically yet poetically portrays the farewell to childhood of a teenage provincial boy who dreams of having a new, expressive hairstyle appropriate to his age and state of mind. Seemingly little, but Lam Can-zhao shows that in certain circumstances, fighting for such seemingly trifles is fighting for oneself.
