A girl’s carefree childhood is interrupted by bombs falling on her home village. Brave Nabu tries to escape and find a safe home.

An extremely moving animation about the plight of refugees shown from a child’s point of view.

Film expert recommends

Another film from a director who works in both animation and documentary. Nabu is a little over 5 minutes long animated miniature that turns out to be a whole world. Based on a book by the eminent poet and translator Jaroslaw Mikolajewski, the piece tells the story of refugee children from Africa or the Middle East in an aesthetically beautiful but emotionally harrowing way. There is no easy consolation or simple solutions here; instead, there is the truth of the destruction of childhood, of the world, of life. The sum of the filmmakers’ talents and their passion for society have produced a work that rises above judgements about craftsmanship or artistry.
