The summer holidays are coming to an end. The carefree reunion of three friends is unexpectedly complicated when it is revealed that one of them is hiding a secret.
Film expert recommends
The next short in the portfolio of a young filmmaker from Sweden is a 15-minute morality tale that deals with the gendered identification of the characters’ near-adulthood. Misunderstandings, disappointments, dashed hopes and emotional reactions – this is quintessentially The End of Summer on the level of character interaction. Placing the action at the end of the titular season is a kind of archetype in Scandinavian cinema, but not only. The whole thing is seemingly a formula, but Haggren’s film stands out against it because of the expressiveness of the characters and the excellent acting of the young protagonists.
