A young queer director from Romania tells a queer story in his next short (12-minute) feature. He chooses a swimming pool as the setting, a space not only for sport and recreation, but also for physical exposure, overcoming complexes, courtship, seduction, the game of looks. In this subtly told story, she does not give easy answers as to what the relationship between the female characters is: a momentary interest, passion, game or misunderstanding. This openness to interpretation is perhaps the greatest asset of If I Swim.
