The Waits family travels to the small, charming town of Nilbog for a vacation. On arrival they are greeted by locals who behave more and more suspiciously. Slowly it becomes apparent that no one in the town is who they say they are. The visiting family faces a real struggle for survival, lest they end up as food for cruel goblins!
This is not good cinema!
The very plot summary of the film “Troll 2” should set off a red light in you – this is not good cinema! Not only that, some people claim that it is the worst film ever made. At the same time, Fragass’ work is considered a cult film, which provides entertainment for successive generations of fans.
How did this happen?
Let’s start with the fact that the director – Claudio Fragasso is Italian, and there was quite a language barrier with the American cast during the filming. Perhaps he would have been better able to communicate even by signaling with professional actors. These, however, were not on the set. All the roles were cast by amateurs, residents of a small town in Utah. Add to this that there is not a single troll in the film, and the plot has absolutely nothing to do with the first part, which was made in 1986!
All this made “Troll 2” an inept and fascinating work at the same time. Theoretically doomed to failure and oblivion, yet worshiped by enthusiasts of cinema so bad it’s good.
