Film expert recommends

The fourth feature-length film by one of the most important ( Sparrows , Volcano ) contemporary Icelandic filmmakers. His work is clearly minimalist in terms of the cinematic means used cinematic means, and usually refers to the most intimate human experiences.

The quintessential example of this is his new work, which depicts coping with loss and exploring unexpected impulses and reactions in the search for intimacy. There are many traditional elements of Scandinavian cinema here: the key role of the landscape, so different from the rest of Europe, the portraits of personalities achieved through small gestures and facial expressions, the use of of close-ups. In Tomorrow at Dawn there are, of course, echoes of Ingmar Bergman’s films ( Persona , Whispers and Screams ), in which the master talked about the unusual and often surprising closeness of female characters. But there are also elements that are as contemporary as possible: urban spleen and melancholy, which on the screen is created, among other things, by the brilliant music of Kjartan Sveinsson, who still draws fully from his mother, post-rock Sigur Rós. The artist has not only become a court composer of music for Rúnarsson’s paintings, but is already bolder in entering the cinema of other masters, such as Neil Jordan, putting his authorial signature everywhere.
